Italian airline ITA Airways becomes 26th partner
Italy’s flag carrier ITA Airways has joined global aviation network Star Alliance as of 31 March 2026.
The carrier is now part of the world’s largest airline group, which allows different airlines to operate as one extended network, meaning passengers can enjoy seamless connections on a single itinerary, earn and redeem frequent flyer miles across multiple airlines and access lounges worldwide if they hold elite status.
ITA Airways’ operations at Rome’s Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport and Milan’s Linate Airport are now integrated into the Star Alliance, with priority services available for members.
Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, said: “By becoming part of the world’s largest global airline network, we significantly expand our international reach while offering our passengers a high‑quality travel experience.”

ITA Airways’ entry into Star Alliance follows its integration into the Lufthansa Group, which acquired a 41% stake in the Italian carrier in 2025. The airline will become the group’s fifth network carrier, joining Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian and Brussels Airlines.
Transporting more than 16 million passengers annually, ITA Airways is set to add more than 350 daily flights to Star Alliance, expanding connectivity between Southern Europe and international destinations
With ITA Airways’ addition, Star Alliance now comprises 26 member airlines, operating more than 17,500 daily flights across 190 countries. It is the alliance’s first new member since Air India joined in 2014.
