Dubai records strongest GCC recovery with surge in India-bound flights
As aviation activity across the GCC continues its steady recovery, regional carriers are expanding operations while international repatriation services remain underway.
Among the countries impacted by recent airspace disruptions, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, Dubai is showing one of the strongest rebounds. According to aviation analytics platform Cirium, the city recorded the highest number of departures between 6 and 9 March, with Indian cities Mumbai and New Delhi emerging as the top outbound destinations, accounting for more than 60 flights.
Etihad Airways is expected to operate nearly 50 flights to and from Abu Dhabi on 10 March.
In Bahrain and Kuwait, airspace closures have now surpassed 10 days. Both nations, however, continue to facilitate repatriation operations for stranded citizens and residents. Gulf Air is operating a special Dammam–Karachi service on 10 March, while Kuwait Airways will run a series of charter flights from Cairo, Amman and Istanbul between 10 and 12 March.
Oman Air is also scaling up capacity from Muscat, adding an extra daily service to Rome, London and Istanbul between 9 and 14 March. Low-cost carrier SalamAir has meanwhile increased frequencies on the Muscat–Fujairah route to accommodate UAE-based travellers seeking outbound connections via Oman.
In Qatar, the partial reopening of airspace has enabled Qatar Airways to resume limited services, with the national carrier scheduled to operate flights to more than 15 destinations today.
International airlines are following suit. Air India Group will deploy 32 additional flights between the UAE and multiple Indian cities on 10 March, and SriLankan Airlines will resume flights to Dubai from today.
As of 9 March, IndiGo recorded more than 165 flights to and from the Middle East within five days, carrying around 22,000 passengers, signalling robust demand on regional routes.
