The 155-room property will serve as a gateway for polar expeditions
Silversea Cruises is set to launch the world’s southernmost hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile. Named The Cormorant at 55 South after its latitude, the property will serve as a hub for the line’s Antarctic expedition cruises.
The hotel will operate seasonally, offering stays from October to March, with the first batch of guests expected in fall 2026. Each of the 150 rooms will offer views of the surrounding forest or the Beagle Channel, with interiors in earthy tones and complemented by authentic Chilean artwork.
Patagonian influences continue in the hotel’s restaurant offerings, with regional ingredients and family-style dining highlighted at Latitude 55, alongside curated wines and spirits at Bar Sur. Guests can also take part in wine tastings and cocktail masterclasses featuring Chilean Pisco.
At the heart of the property will be a fireplace lounge, a communal area for guests to gather and enjoy sweeping views of the natural landscape. A variety of outdoor activities will be available, including nature walks, hiking, kayaking and wildlife watching. Guests can complete their experience with traditional keepsakes from Uncharted, The Cormorant’s boutique featuring local craftwork.
Commenting on the development, Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, said: “The Cormorant at 55 South represents an exciting new chapter for Silversea, extending our commitment to luxury travel to Antarctica.

An agent’s guide to selling Silversea Cruises
“This unique property will offer our guests the same hallmark comfort and personalized service they expect while on board our ships and will immerse them in the rich culture, traditions and natural beauty of the region. The interior spaces are thoughtfully designed to reflect the spirit of this extraordinary destination.”
The hotel will enhance Silversea’s Antarctica Fly Cruise itineraries, which allow travellers to reach the remote continent without crossing the notorious Drake Passage, offering a simpler route. These journeys begin in Puerto Williams, including a stay at The Cormorant, before guests fly to King George Island in Antarctica to board the all-inclusive expedition voyage. The return journey follows the same route. Currently, 55 bookings for 2026 to 2028 expeditions are available.
