Initiative set to raise standards and preserve heritage
Al Ain has rolled out a hotel refurbishment scheme, launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), to elevate hospitality standards. The project aims to strengthen the destination’s appeal as a tourism hub while enhancing the overall visitor experience. Known as the Garden City, it is home to historic forts, Unesco-listed Al Ain Oasis palm farm, Al Ain Zoo and Jebel Hafeet, famous for offering one of the world’s most scenic driving routes.
Under the initiative, eligible hotel owners can receive rebates on investments to upgrade their properties in line with international hospitality standards, with additional allowances available for brand conversions, higher star ratings and heritage refurbishments.
The move comes as Al Ain has emerged as a growing regional destination in recent years. In 2025, the city welcomed more than 470,000 guests, with hotel occupancy reaching 66%, representing a 9% year-on-year increase in both cases. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) grew nearly 20% from 2024, reaching AED204.
